Nevertheless, some challenges require even more power. Tasks such as subsea cutting, hydro dam dismantling, or decommissioning steel structures require a solution that could not be fully realised with existing tools, including large quarry wire saws. Although these quarry solutions are powerful, they are not optimised for the large scale of civil and offshore environments.
The powerful tool for demanding cuts
To bridge this gap, Hilti has introduced the DSW 5030-CA wire saw, a diamond wire saw that is said to combine industry leading power and wire capacity with the ease of use Hilti wire sawing tools are renowned for. The DSW 5030-CA delivers 50kW of cutting power and has 30m of wire storage, making it capable of handling even the largest cuts with high levels of efficiency. Its high start torque provides reliable performance in the most demanding applications, which Hilti says overcomes challenges where other tools fall short. The DSW 5030-CA can operate on both 63A and 125A power sources, achieving 37kW and 50kW of power respectively.
Ease of operation is a cornerstone of Hilti tools, and the DSW 5030-CA is no exception. The compact wireless remote control uses ‘CutAssist’ technology, a feature designed to support operators by automatically adjusting power and wire tension. By aligning these parameters with the amount of wire storage in use, the system is designed to optimise performance and efficiency in real time. This enhances both precision and safety while allowing operators to focus on execution rather than constant manual adjustments.
Reliability and stability are critical for large scale cutting operations, therefore the DSW 5030-CA is equipped with a pneumatic wire tensioning system. The system minimises wire jumping and drastically reduces the risk of wire breakage due to high shock absorption. This ensures a consistent and stable cut, even under the most strenuous conditions to provide an uninterrupted workflow on demanding projects.
