MiC 4.0 ‘BUS’ - a new attachment interface between the machine and the attachment

Published 20/11 at 18:14

MiC 4.0 is an international working group formed by the VDMA and HDB. The MiC 4.0-BUS has been created as a standard for manufacturer independent communication between attachments and construction machines. To this end, an interface has been developed that covers all relevant use cases for communication between the attachment and the machine, with the aim of investigating what data needs to be exchanged. This includes identification data such as serial number and tool type; status data such as measured angular position, and control data for controlling the tool functions.

The data interface is supplemented by rules for the operation of MiC 4.0 BUS attachments, control and monitoring of quick action couplings and an overall safety concept for safe operation. The interface was developed between 2019 and 2024 by Cluster 7 of the MiC 4.0 working group, which is made up of representatives of machine and attachment manufacturers and product users. The common motivation during the development process was to create maximum customer benefit. The interface documentation is publicly available on the mic40.org website. MiC 4.0 working group is now open for comments on the documentation until 30 November 2024.
