SaMoTer, Europe’s biggest international show in 2023

After being postponed several times due to the pandemic, SaMoTer in Verona was back in full scale in May this year.

The SaMoTer show in Verona was a long awaited reunion for the Italian market and also large parts of the European machinery market. The show was held as usual at Verona Fiere in Verona, Italy on 2 to 5 May this year. It is Europe's largest show in 2023 with international status, which also meant that many manufacturers chose to participate in the show. At bauma last year, many new developments were shown and for many manufacturers there was a repetition of developments. SaMoTer, like bauma, Intermat, ConExpo-Con/Agg and others, is a broad show, with all types of machinery and equipment for construction, crushing and sorting, mines and more.

Over 40,000 visitors from 91 countries

SaMoTer attracted more than 40,000 specialist visitors over the five days of the event from 91 countries, with Germany, Spain and France being in the first three places in terms of number of attendees. There was also good attendance from Asia, Africa, North and South America. Business, innovation, internationalisation and training were the key topics at SaMoTer this year. The event brought together 536 exhibiting companies to the Verona Exhibition Centre. Of these, 115 were international companies from 23 countries, with the return of major players in the sector such as Cgt, Caterpillar and Hitachi.

The 31st SaMoTer featured a strong focus on the implementation of new technologies in the construction industry to help it become more competitive and sustainable. Visitors therefore had the chance to see the machinery of the future at work in the new dynamic exhibition area that made its debut this year: Il Cantiere Digitale – The Digital Construction Site – being a SaMoTer Lab project. In addition to more than 500 business to business meetings set up by companies with 106 foreign buyers from 36 countries selected by Veronafiere and ICE-Trade Agency, SaMoTer confirmed its status as a trade fair with great content. This was in part due to more than 80 training initiatives and educational activities organised with high profile technical scientific partners.

The central role of SaMoTer in Italy's industrial site and construction machinery and equipment value chain, in addition to the excellent attendance and operator satisfaction, was also confirmed by the attendance of institutions. The Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, inaugurated the event, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, highlighted how SaMoTer is a full part of the integrated promotion strategies abroad for Italian companies.

Strong focus of demolition and recycling attachments

For PDi Magazine, of course, the sectors of concrete cutting, demolition and recycling were of particularly interest. At SaMoTer these sectors were well represented. Manufacturers of products for concrete cutting and the treatment of concrete surfaces were perhaps not as well represented when compared to manufacturers of products for demolition and recycling. Basically all major players were represented, especially Italian manufacturers.

In terms of tools for demolition and recycling, among others, the following companies exhibited:

Trevi Benne, Indeco, Vtn Europe, Mantovanibenne, Epiroc, Simex, MB Crusher, Promove, Cmb, Montabert, Socomec, Kemroc, OilQuick, Dynaset, Italdem, Idromeccanica, Osa, Rammer, Beilite, Itr, Allu, Echidna, Erkat, Hammer and Cangini to name but a few. When it came to mobile crushers and screens, companies such as Rev, Seba, Komplet, Komatsu, BHS Sonthofen and Lindner exhibited.

As stated, the manufacturers of equipment for concrete hole making and diamond tools were not so well represented at the fair, but there were some such as Sea Technology, Fast Verdini and La Nord. At La Nord's booth, the Australian manufacturer of boom-mounted diamond saws, Echidna, also exhibited.

Then of course the carriers of the hydraulic tools were present at the fair. That is, the manufacturers of excavators that can be equipped for demolition. Some examples were Komatsu, Doosan, Develon, Kobelco, Caterpillar and Hitachi. These, along with a number of others, also showed compact loaders as well as mini and midi excavators. Some examples were Messersi, Avant Tecno and Hinowa. Italy is also strong in equipment to reduce and manage dust in the workplace by using water mist. Examples of these manufacturers at the show were Scavi and Ciclone.

New product launches

Regarding new products at the fair, many exhibitors showed developments that were launched at bauma in October last year. Trevi Benne showed the new pulveriser FR18; Avant Tecno showed its latest battery powered loaders and dumpers; MB Crushers also released new crusher buckets and sieves, which also applied to Finnish crusher bucket manufacturer, Allu, whilst Komatsu showed its new HB365NLC hybrid excavators. Vtn Europe showed its combination scissor SC140 and concrete scissor CK17 with booster, whilst the Italian manufacturer Cmb also showed a range of new hydraulic tools for demolition, recycling and scrap handling. Indeco showed several developments including the pulveriser IMP25/4.0. Mantovanibenne's stand basically consisted entirely of new developments such as the pulveriser RP20-IT and the concrete shears CC35. Rammer showed its new small hammer series. Promove showed the small concrete shears Cp 210, and a new small hammer in the ‘XP’ series.

In future editions of PDi this year, we will cover the news in separate articles. As with so many other fairs these days, electric and battery driven equipment were well represented among the new products.

All in all, SaMoTer was a very successful fair and a fond reunion for many in the industry. Verona as a city also offered the fine weather, culture, food and wine that Verona is known for. The next edition of SaMoTer is scheduled 6-9 May 2026.
