The US Mega Show, Conexpo-Con/Agg, back againPublished 24/2 at 12:54
The US mega show Conexpo-Con/Agg will be held March 11-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in USA. Organizers are the American industry association AEM (Association of Equipment Manufacturers). This article gives you an overview what to look at if you are among others into demolition, concrete cutting, recycling and remediation.
Conexpo was founded in 1909 in Columbus, Ohio. And the first CON/AGG was held in Detroit, Michigan 1928. In 1968 the two shows merged. The first joint exhibition was held in Las Vegas, Nevada the same year. CONEXPO-CON/AGG has gone on to become the western hemisphere's second largest show for the construction and construction materials industries after Bauma in Germany. The construction industry in the US is experiencing a sharp upturn. The infrastructure has been neglected for a number of years and the need to upgrade is great. The US government has put in a number of billions of dollars to primarily equip the road network, bridges, viaducts and more. This type of effort will not only benefit the large construction and civil engineering companies, but many smaller companies will also benefit as they are often subcontractors.
Same numbers as in 2017
The starting field at Conexpo-Con/Agg is bigger than ever with almost 2800 exhibitors. However in 2017, the number of exhibitors reached over 2800. But there is still some time to go, we will see. Although the fair has a strong domestic character with over 75% American exhibitors, it is also an important marketplace for many foreign manufacturers, especially from Europe and East Asia. About 25% exhibitors and manufacturers come from countries other than the United States. It is difficult to estimate the number of visitors at this stage during the five days the show is organized but last time in 2017, 128,000 people visited the show. The US market had begun to increase, but uncertainty was high, with some restraint as a result. They had also just been given a new president in the controversial Donald Trump. Trump is no less controversial today, but he seems to have a positive impact on the construction industry. However, the introduction or increase of trade tariffs has had a negative effect on the market, which will perhaps be played out at the show with fewer exhibitors in particular from Asia. Another factor that can affect both the number of exhibitors and visitors is the spread of the Corona virus. At present, however, there are no stated restrictions for visitors coming from China what the magazine has experienced. Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps, will most certainly be filled by entrepreneurs from near and far who want to check out the latest news and try their luck at one or some of the many casinos in town. If you are one of those traveling to Las Vegas in March you will find, next to this text, some information about opening hours and how the fair is divided into different zones and exhibition areas. You will also find a selective list of some of the exhibitors with a strong connection to demolition, concrete cutting, recycling and remediation.
Busy first quarter in terms of exhibitions
The first quarter of this year is quite exhibition intensive, especially in the US. In early February, the annual World of Concrete Fair was also held in Las Vegas. The show is more focused on concrete equipment and the products are lighter machines in general. Conexpo-Con/Agg has a clear focus on the heavy artillery of machine and tools. It is quite clear that in years when Conexpo-Con/Agg is organized, the World of Concrete loses both exhibitors and visitors. That was the case this year too, which you can read about on page xx.
A couple of weeks after Conexpo-Con/Agg, the pan-Europe Samoter will be organized in Verona, Italy. Samoter is similar to Conexpo-Con/Agg but is considerably smaller. At present, 450 companies have chosen to exhibit at the show.
PDi Magazine will have four of its reporters circulating Conexpo-Con/Agg the whole show week. If you would like to pick up a copy of PDi Magazine you find it in publication bins at the main entrance to the show. Enjoy Conexpo-Con/Agg 2020 and Las Vegas.
